The final “push” in the garden

In the city of Oslo, the gardens are going into slumber, as the weather is hovering around 0 degrees — some days close to 10C but freezing overnight. Still, I found a single rose in bloom, resisting the entrance of the winter, and perhaps as a goodbye to this season.

A Final Rose (Tienhaara)

I have not given fully myself either, but at the same time with expectations for the winter. The apple trees carried a tremendous amount of apples this year, the final ones I harvested this weekend, the birds had feasted on some of the sweet ones; the good ones pressed for more apple juice and cider (late harvest).

The last apple harvest (Tienhaara)

In the soil, around the apple trees and hugging some other areas with hydrangeas, tall grass and flowers, hundreds of bulbs have been planted, expecting a colorful spring and early summer. But sudden is the shift of seasons. Early morning, the air is humid, and possible rain coming, however, it turns out it is some light snowfall, laying soon a white carpet in the garden, on all the leaves and the streets for the next few hours.

Carbon Gardening

So, in the meantime, while we are scaling up industrial carbon capture, if you have a garden, small or large, you can actually engineer it for carbon sequestration, I read. A few good suggestions:

  • Plant perennials
  • Grow tall native grass, don’t mow your lawn so frequently and water less
  • Go native with the plants and diversify
  • Grow a variety of native flowers
  • Add shrubs or trees

I have done the above and added more for each year. We have to think about all the small contributions we can make.

Industrial canopy solutions

While the tree canopies are losing their leaves the industrial revolution with the energy transition keeps on moving, and the scale is about to happen. We see the tendencies clearly here in the Nordics, with many of the most sustainable cities in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland. For good examples, others can learn from us! Cities, industries, and societies are pushing for carbon neutrality as we have no time to lose. The industrial canopy solutions are provided by Technip Energies, where the CANOPY range has pre-engineered and modularized solutions, to de-risk the project deliveries and speed up implementation.
