Future of Automotive — with a Starting Point from the Heritage
An automotive journey in West Sweden to grasp the passion and expertise
In recent days, I have accompanied the Munrolive team, including Sandy himself, looking at the heritage, innovation, and future of automotive and mobility in the region of West Sweden that still circles around the extended metropolitan area of Gothenburg.
To understand the passion, talent, expertise, and driving force, we looked at events and locations such as the Volvo museum (our focus was Volvo Cars) and the 75th anniversary festival for Saab Cars — and amazing that my father spent some 38 years at the company! For my American friends, as for myself, we could see how much greatness there has been built over many decades (Volvo itself is 95 years young…).
And I am amazed about Sandy’s followers; wherever we went, there were fans — for example, at our hotel (we stayed at the eminent Radisson Blu Riverside on Lindholmen, Gothenburg — Sandy just loved it there!) and at an Ionity charging station along the E6 highway.
Heritage drives the future.
I had the opportunity to work with and arrange a Nordic visit for MunroLive ( I dearly hope you know about this YouTube…
Further reporting and insights will come about the future — having spent time at Lindholmen with Geely; we were allowed to gain some unique insights into future car models; we visited the new design center, to be opened later this year. Look for my upcoming articles to learn more about this. The future looks exciting and it is interesting how the former ties US-Sweden (Ford&Volvo; GM & Saab) have dissolved and become the potent China-Sweden link (Geely/Volvo/Polestar/CEVT/Xeekr/Lynk&Co…and NEVS => SAAB).
During a sunny weekend, the drive along the Göta river from Gothenburg to Trollhättan was pleasant. The Saab museum and related areas were waiting, filled with cars from the 40s and forward. Two-stroke to turbo. And a massive amount of people! It is always special to come here. We had great talks with past Saab Cars/Automobile executives — from the technical director and CEO to the owner. Reports from these talks are to follow.
But today, the link to Oslo on automotive, or the future of mobility, is vital. Oslo and Norway are leading in terms of the transition to battery electric vehicles. And now, in June, it is perhaps best manifested with the EVS35 conference.

The region is buzzing, filled with opportunities and innovative work. And then, this was great fun to do together with Mike, Cory and Sandy. Our off-the-record and backroom talks where so interesting too. Happy to do this again.
