Constant Gardener #4 — Never Stop!

The spring has rolled in slowly and late in the Nordics, we have even experienced the climate changes and extreme weather, with sudden heavy snowfall. During the weekends, and some weeknights, I have spent a good amount of hours in tidying up the garden after the winter, tending bushes and trees and starting to see some early blossom. The late spring has also allowed me to spend more time on my bike…

I realize that a lot of friends in the business and colleagues do a lot of gardening:

Just recently, after a busy work week, a colleague was going home, and asked me if it was time for some gardening — my quick response was: it will never stop! Gardening is a constant activity and you need to keep up to what is happening. Like myself, he had taken care of the apple trees and more, but he was clearly ahead with the vegetables. So I decided to set onions, kale, garlic and spinach. Done!

During a field excursion some weeks ago, I happened to talk to a business person with a common interest in gardening, who strongly suggested to grow kale and spinach. They should come early, have a large harvest and be easy to tend. So, I will ensure my small crops will get water, sun and love, and hopefully generate some home-grown salads and vegetables.

Also, in the past week, I was with some French colleagues at a client visit, and we had some time to discuss also other matters. We came to talk about gardening; he told about his vegetables and fruits, last year, coming close to harvesting and it looked so lush and rich with the plethora of squash, salads; figs and apricots (oh, how limited we are in terms of what we can make grow here in the Nordics, in comparison, without a greenhouse) — however in two days the snails ate and destroyed all the veggies. He was dedicated to organic growth, but realized how tough this is, almost tempted to go for chemicals this year.

Gardening — never stops! Whether you are actively putting some hours into the gardening itself, or through interesting discussions on what to do, grow and make your gardening, whether flowers, trees or vegetables, flourish.

Happy gardening!
