The Nordic winter is long. For now, it is done, and the spirit of the springtime is filling us up with joy.

Enjoying gardening, tending to plants, flowers and trees, makes the incubation during winter a bit difficult in the Nordics.

I have been tending indoor plants, preserving bulbs, pre-cultivating seeds. But nothing can beat the work in the garden!

Early plant life has been identified, from here on it just gets better.

During autumn we planted various additional hydrangeas, hundreds of flower bulbs.

Having large grown-up trees, means that also acting as a hobby arborist is required. Looking after the trees, cutting away dead branches and shaping them makes me happy. Trees and especially forests are carbon sinks, heard on the linear radio that it takes about 70 years for a Nordic forest to be what is considered being full-grown, while in the southern hemisphere it is about 12 years. Short cycles are not in the benefit of the local Nordic trees, here are and patience will be of high importance.

Soon, we will have busy times gardening, planting even further new plants and bulbs, what I expect to become a lush garden by summertime.

Spending time outdoor, in a slow and relaxed pace, gets me thinking:

In my daily work, I enjoy industrial applications and technology; working with scaling up decarbonization of industries is hard work, and an effort to balance human impact. Carbon is also a source of life, in the Nordics we have a large amount of biogenic CO2 that can be utilized by applying carbon capture technologies to industrial plants and for instance utilizing the carbon for electrofuels.

Let’s be careful with our nature and natural resources and work towards sustainability in our society.

For now, my break is over, for some additional gardening activities.
